Rappeuses Chic! Girl Rapperz Unite!

The Chix Hip Hop Party!

After "le rappeur chic", here comes the RAPPEUSES chic, yo ! La Centrale's 3rd party dedicated to recognizing the under-represented sex in the hiphop scene. Hip hop had it's day, they say. It's all done and over. True true for the menfolk, that is... but for the ladies, the party has just begun! There's a strange and wonderful blossoming happening all over this urban landscape, where the Montréal up-and-comers have hips and thighs. It's time to recognize... FRIDAY, DECEMBER 7th, witness the unveiling of 5 of the city's freshest female MCs: GISELLE NUMBA ONE: The girly from Hot Springs does a whole *other* thing! Loop pedals, glockenspiels, flute, melodica, random beats, kalimba.. you name it! This is a whole new esoteric kinda hip hop. She raps about witches, and convinces her pals in trippy rock bands to make beats with her. She's collaborated with folks like SoCalled, Subtitle (AKA Giovanni Marks from L.A.), MachineDrum (NYC), Gatineau, but lately she's become a bit of a feminista producer.. a Queency Jones, if you will. This will be her last show in Montréal before she busts it out in Brussels, Berlin, and Nuuk, Greenland, bouncing her rhymes off of squats and igloos. She'll be backed up with Gambletron, AKA Lisa Gamble.. who you'll hear more about down below. http://www.myspace.com/gisellenumbaone DONZELLE: Compulsive and excessive, Violette Vilaine collects hobbies and alter-egos in the same fashion she collects objects. As Donzelle, she is ridiculous and pretentious armed with golden high heels, a plunging neckline, unsound metaphors but more importantly skilled collaborators (Sexyboy, Numéro, Giselle Numba One, Vincent Lévesque de We Are Wolves, World Provider). Supported on stage by her "Janet Jackson-esques" dancers, her mission is to make you dance like there's no tomorrow! Plus, she raps in portugese, to boot! Get ready for battles.. http://www.myspace.com/dtodaondonzelle CHAï: All we know about Chaï's is she's still in highschool, she comes from Tunisia, and Muslum rappers are hella hot these days. Don't try to find her on myspace, cos the girls is too underground. RANDOM RECIPE: Giselle Numba One met Frannie+Fabsz rappin on a street corner for 99cent pizza one night. They challanged her to a freestyle and kicked her ass in 3 different languages. These ladies didn't have a band or nothin - just a tiny guitar and an italian chick who can beatbox. Now they got a full-out heebie-hopper back up crew, consisting of Danni Manni (CPC Gangbangs) on the drums, Lisa Gamble (Gambletron) on the mini-korg (subTRONIC bASS!), and Giselle Numba One as producer, glock player, computer nerd wonderrrr. They call themselves a buffet of Janis & Billie rhymin' on a Thievery Corporation beat, with a Mala Rodriguez rap ghettoing up a Mariachi's famous hits xmas compilation, Violetta Parra singing to Koxmoz over a Ludacris beat, CocoRosie chillin meets Danger Doom, Wax Tailor praiiisssinnng the loorddd. These girls are for real. This'll be their debut show as a full band, so don't say we didn't warn you. http://www.myspace.com/randomrecipe GAMBLETRON: Often classified as experimental noise, the lo-fi hack sound machine is based out of punk rock, driven by acoustics and analogue non lap-top generators, throwing things, layering mayhem, all directions acquired, tape loops, mixing bowls, bowed metal, samples, drum beats, homemade electronic noise makers, shitty homemade microphones, bad amps, sometimes collaborators, sometimes rappers, sometimes drone, sometimes song. It all really depends on the show, the country, and what did or didn't break along the way. You might know Lisa Gamble from her work with Thundrah, Anabelle Chvostek, Carla Bozulich, Jordi Rosen, Molasses, the Degenerators, A Silver Mount Zion, Lake of Stew, Tricky Woo, Radio Canada and Queen Size Shag. She has shared the stage with shit she can't even remember an eighth of it! Gambletron will be doin her circuit bending meyham for Giselle Numba One, and Random Recipe for this party too! Supa Woman! http://www.myspace.com/gambletron Rappeuse Chic yo! We got (break)dancers! We got Lynne T from Lesbians on Ecstasy holding down the 1's and 2's! We got Jas Nasty spinning, if we can convince her to hike it back to Montréal from Ottawa and M&MC, the new fresh Montreal lady dj duo. Plus the whole damn thing is a benefit for Galerie La Centrale ( www.lacentrale.org), which is an art gallery for chicks, don'tcha know! So we'll have honeys up and down the yin yang, schoolin the boys on what real hip hop's all about. Love, Peace, Community, and Cheap-Ass Bling.
