GERALDINE AH-SUE, montreal
SHEENA HOSZKO, montreal
In the window from March 15 to April 9 2006
Opening Friday, March 17, 5pm
Mimic is a 5 minute video played in a loop, 24 hours a day in the storefront window of the gallery. It is presented on a monitor and its soundtrack will play on the outdoor speakers. This video is documentation of a laughing performance. Sometimes sincere, sometimes forced, sometimes in between, the laughter confronts the viewer as to its reason and/or source.
Sheena Hoszko is a Montreal-based artist who's practice involves collaborative projects dealing with interpersonal exchange and possible alternative economies. Past works have included donating her entire cd collection to friends and strangers, organizing community-based video projects, as well as handing out "useless" presents to passers-by on the street. These sculptural and performative works aim at highlighting the transformative potential of everyday gesture and experience.
