Journée sans culture - [réfléchir ensemble]

A collective pause Wednesday October 21st, 9am to 5pm at the Théâtre Aux Écuries

** PLEASE NOTE THAT LA CENTRALE WILL EXCEPTIONALLY BE CLOSED ON WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 21ST TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS COLLECTIVE PAUSE

The Journée sans culture is a call for a symbolic strike, led artists and cultural workers, for us and for the society in which we work. This strike seeks not to refuse but rather to call for a stoppage, a pause that we give ourselves collectively, to discuss what matters to us.

It’s a day when art workers from all disciplines and fields are invited to meet to reflect upon art’s present as well as its future. What are our hopes for the arts beyond cultural policies that, in aspiring to sustain us, end up also managing us?

This coming October 21st, a meeting of all disciplines will be held at the Théâtre Aux Écuries on October 21 from 9am to 5pm to carve out a space for contemplation and discussion around central issues, from how we make art to how we participate in the world we inhabit.

Regardless of your job in the arts sector, you are warmly invited to participate in a collective reflection regarding issues affecting our broader community. Wherever you may be on this day—your home, your practice space, your workshop, at your organization’s office, in a café or in a park—you are invited to organize your meet-ups, privately or publicly. Our voices are many, our possibilities infinite.

Discussion tables will be set up at which you can freely express yourself on the following themes:

- Between gift, resilience and exhaustion: how to work and up to what point?
- Community, investment and capture
- Between dialogue and monologue: resonance in the social sphere
- Thinking new models of organisation
- Speech and frozen tongue : the beginning of a lexicon
- The artist-as-entrepreneur: the only remaining horizon?
- Market, philanthropy, or state: who supports whom?
- “Nous et nousses”

At the end of the event a publication will be produced in order to gather and disseminate the ideas, questions, pressing issues and desires that motivate us in a spirit of generative dissensus. It is our way of giving back a platform to those who produce this “culture” within which art is breaking down, a culture that is generously celebrated, but about which we are seldom consulted. Here’s to being indomitable!
