In March 2020, along with cultural institutions across Canada, La Centrale closed its doors to the public. While we were closed, a shift happened in the ways publics related to cultural institutions. There was a renewed demand for transparency regarding how cultural institutions are governed and organized. As we embarked on similar reflections regarding our own institution, it became clear that we have work to do in order to strengthen our structures and governance to meet the changing needs of our community, our members, and our team. For the past months, we have reflected on what La Centrale has achieved, what we still need to do, and how we can achieve it. We have reevaluated our current priorities to better imagine our future.

As we prepare to reopen, this moment is an opportunity for La Centrale to reposition ourselves so that we can continue to reflect on our responsibilities as an artist-run centre. We hope to reintroduce ourselves as an organization that is capable of responding to the needs of our community.

La Centrale’s Board of Directors and coordinating team invites you to join us at our upcoming General Assembly. We will discuss La Centrale’s reflections following a year and a half of closure as well as programming for the year ahead. The GA is also an opportunity to participate in La Centrale’s operations by electing members of the Board of Directors and the Exhibition and Performance Committees. More information on how to nominate yourself for a seat on the Board of Directors and the Performance and Exhibition Committees is below. Information on all of La Centrale’s members committees is available on our website.

If you are not a member of La Centrale and wish to participate in the assembly, or, if you wish to become a member before the GA, contact developpement@lacentrale.org.

We look forward to seeing you!
