DÉSORDRES Festival (Lille, France)

In response to a “carte blanche” programming slot offered to La Centrale by the DÉSORDRES festival in Lille (France), 11 active members have been selected to present their work. The festival was initiated by Rencontres féministes, an association that promotes under or unrepresented artistic forms such as performance art and transdisciplinary practices.
 

For the occasion, La Centrale’s performance committee has selected performances by DAYNA MCLEOD and DOMINIQUE PÉTRIN to be presented to the Lille public. These will be followed by an hour-long video program consisting of nine works produced by members of La Centrale. The spectrum of artistic approaches and points of view found within our programming attempts to reflect a certain contemporary feminist art landscape of Québec.

La Centrale’s coordinators and on-site artists will also participate in a discussion with other invited artists and theorists on the subject of contemporary feminist performance art practices.

DOMINIQUE PÉTRIN
Le bûcher de la Pucelle
Silkscreen and performance artist Dominique Pétrin, accompanied in this work by Georges Rebboh, experiments with hypnosis as a space for potentiality of the body and of its direct relation to its surroundings. The hypnotised subject must consent to letting go of his certainties, reflexes and conditioning… to burn alive.

DAYNA MCLEOD
Come shred my heart
Come Shred My Heart is an interactive performance that asks you to consider the advice that you would give yourself in the past or in the future, write it on lovely stationary (provided!), and feed it to the shredding teeth of Dayna McLeod’s Vagina Dentata. Like making a wish or throwing a coin in a fountain, your secret is as safe as you keep it, complete with symbolic “letting go” gestures, and textual evidence safely destroyed.
