Backspace
Danny Gaudreault (Montréal)
Performance residency from July 18 to 31, 2016 (Open to the Public : noon-5pm)
Finissage/ Performance Saturday July 30, 5pm to 7pm
BACKSPACE is a kind of dissection of Danny Gaudreault’s perfor-mative process. On a daily basis, he will do a series of micro-interventions in the gallery. La Centrale will slowly over time become a support for appropriations where fragments - of an action, an encounter, an used object, and, above all, multiple references - will accumulate. Grounded in the desire to archive even the slightest gesture, this field of interrelations and interactions will confront the perishable nature of performative action. Inspired by the aesthetic and culture of fanzines, each day and its fragments will be documented. At the end of the residency, a performance will take place in the scenery of the dissection of his own process. It is simultaneously a metaphor of the way he constructs his performative identity and a literal part of the process of deconstruction and creation of the identity.
‘‘ BACKSPACE : what I don’t usually show (you). ’’
Danny Gaudreault is a multidisciplinary artist living and working in Montreal. Over the past decade, Gaudreault presented his work at events and performance festivals across Canada (Montreal, Toronto, Edmonton, etc.) and in Helsinki, Finland. Gaudreault perceives his practice as one whole performative and autobiographical art piece. He mainly create actions using everyday objects, subverting codes and cultural references, including queer imagery. His performative search field allows him to explore other mediums, such as video and photography, installation, drawing or even writing.
