Biography

Marcella França is a contemporary artist and performer from Brazil based in Montreal. Trained first as a dancer, painter, and video artist, França holds a BFA in Visual Communication specializing in audiovisual and experience projects. Her artistic practice utilizes a multidisciplinary approach to create powerfully evocative, immersive, and experiential art that speaks to the physicality of the human form. With her practice of more than two decades of experience in hybrid languages mixing contemporary dance, digital technologies, and visual art, França expands the conventions of art to create public art, performances, video arts, and immersive installations that investigate the relationship between nature, and contemporary existential questions intertwining with ideas of time, memory, decolonial issues, ecofeminism, and immigration. Marcella has exhibited at major festivals such as Art Souterrain (MTL), SATFEST 2021 (MTL), Montréal en Lumière (MTL), +Performance (RJ, BR), Optica Festival (ES/FR), MAPP MTL, and Amazonia MAPP (BR).
