In this workshop we'll learn how to make a natural ink extraction, with a demonstration of a basic methodology that the participants can reproduce in their homes/studios. About Karina Arbelaez:
Karina is a multidisciplinary artist of Colombian origin. She has lived and worked in Tiohtià:ke, known as Montreal, since 2012. She has a bachelor’s degree in visual arts from Universidad Nacional de Colombia, an extended education in film and art history from the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina, and a certificate of professional studies in graphic design from CFPV in Montreal. Recently she completed a residency at Estudio Abierto in Oaxaca, MX (February 2022) working on a multimedia installation entitled Vernacular Colours, based on research and ancestral knowledge of pigment extraction. She uses video, archival footage, colours, and illustration as tools to express her experiences from a migratory point of view by highlighting questions of identity, social constructions and relations with the Other – the “Other” being the unknown that frightens or attracts us, people, communities, or simply the earth itself.
