On September 16, 2022 Mahsa Amini was arrested by the Iranian "morality police". While in their custody, Masha was brutally assaulted,  leading to her death after three days in a coma. In response to this injustice, the Iranian people rose up and participated in numerous protests. These protests  have been and continue to be violently repressed by the Iranian regime which silences dissidents.

This uprising, which began due to  the disregard  of women's right to control their own bodies, has grown to include  the struggle for freedom of expression of all Iranians and reminds us that women's rights are human rights. 

In line with its feminist and social justice mandate, La Centrale condemns the violent oppression of women and protesters in Iran. Amidst  the growing waves of protests, we express our solidarity with Iranian women, non-binary people and allies who are demanding the freedom of choice for their own bodies.

La Centrale  is by no means alone in this position and is indebted to many organizations and individuals who are raising awareness on this issue.
